2500 years ago - Ancient Rome

The Romans never imagined that a few geese would be that important for the sake of the City and of the future empire.
In 390 b.C., during a tremendous night, dozens of geese woke the City and saved the Capitol from the Gauls, a barbarous tribe from northern Europe.

2000 years ago - Imperial Rome

The geese living on the hillsides of Rome provided the feathers and down for the cushions used in the triclinia and so much appreciated during the banquets of emperors, noblemen and rich Romans.

1000 years ago - Middle Ages

Passing from the luxury of the imperial court to the simple and cold medieval castles: enormous feather-and down filled blankets were what most comfortable, warm, rich, and sweet the austere inhabitants of those fortresses could afford.

500 Years ago – Renaissance

Natural elements, small structures of amazing perfection ... the genius Leonardo da Vinci, too, discovered the magic and mysteries of feathers, and down along his complex studies of birds flight and repeatedly observed the lightness of the feathers when mooved and driven by the wind.
The Medici, great lords of Florence, the Sforza and the Este and many more Italian noble families, during the Renaissance live a period of great splendour of arts and handicrafts.
The large ballrooms and nuptial rooms were richly decorated and their owners relied on the comfort and warmth feathers and down could provide.

Today

During the succeeding periods, blankets filled with feathers and down spread more and more. The fashions changed, the shapes and fabrics as well, but unaltered remains an inclination for an element of so important characteristics and functions.
Today SALPI, with the latest research and technology, but with the same care and passion as ever, continues the Italian story of feathers and down.
